Did you know that every sin we commit has consequences?
We know that God certainly forgives when someone comes to Him with a sincere and contrite heart.
In the Bible, we see personalities such as King David, who sinned greatly in the eyes of the Lord and was forgiven. He wrote Psalm 51, which describes his repentance. Still, God told him through the prophet Nathan that the sword would not depart from his house because of the sin he committed.
The consequences of sin are not just a punishment or a way for us to pay for what we have done, but a way to teach us important lessons.
King Solomon sinned, and his kingdom was divided because of that.
The Bible states in the book of Judges that whenever the Israelites sinned, God allowed their enemies to attack and subdue them.
Samson, the strongest man on earth, succumbed to his weaknesses and was blinded and enslaved by his enemies.
”For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17)
“But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.” (1 Corinthians 11:32)
There is a judgment that comes upon God’s children when they sin. This is for their own good, however. This is not a means for a person to pay for his sins; rather, it is the way God corrects someone. The price for sin has already been paid on the cross, and salvation is found only through faith in the Son of God. We need to understand, however, that the price paid for us has been high. It is the precious blood of the Holy Son of God. The way God deals with sin in our lives helps us honor Him more and appreciate His sacrifice in the right way.
Those who do not participate in this judgment occurring in this life are not God’s legitimate sons and will be judged for their sins in the final judgment before the Great White Throne. That’s why each person must ensure they have received God’s forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
The Bible teaches that there are consequences because of the sins we commit. The Word of God exhorts us to pursue sanctification. This is only possible through the power of Christ's blood, which cleanses us of all sin and iniquity. Even if we sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Still, we need to know that there will sometimes be painful consequences. God is a good father, and if He allows those things to happen, it is for our good and a way for us to learn a lesson. Hebrews 12 6 says that the Lord chastens His children because He loves them.
He does this because He wants us to be close to Him and to have communion with Him. The Bible states in Proverbs that a rod will deliver a child’s soul from hell. This is also how His love is expressed.
